The Obdurate Avidity
Chapter 8
By TurtleBoy
Grabbing our things and the sandwiches mom whipped up, we ran out the front door to the great beyond. Skipping down the street, hand in hand, the two of us traveled down the narrow gravel road. I hadn’t been this way before, it was unexplored terrain. The trees were off in the distance; a good 50 feet on either side of us. The sun was high and hot, the clouds seemed to have taken the day off. With the subtle breeze pushing us gently to closer toward our destination, I could feel my thoughts lift from my head. At this very time I was in the here and now. Nothing was there to distract me. I was with the one I loved, carrying a bag on my back, and a hand in my own.
We had been walking for maybe half hour, if that. The trees seemed to be pushing in towards the street, becoming darker and more present. The Gravel had disappeared leaving only dirt and bumps. Yet the birds were still happy, and the squirrels were still following each other in circles, so all seemed well. James had become quiet and content. I was guessing he just wanted to get there and have the walk over with. I on the other hand was having a ball. It was relaxing, and inspiring. His smile drove me forward, his touch guided me, and his ass… Distracted me!
I could smell the air growing damp, a sure sign of our near arrival. That and James pace sped considerably. He squeezed my hand and we began to run.
“Come on Adrian, we’re there!” He stated excitedly.
“I’m coming! Your hand’s making sure of that!” I giggled as I staggered in behind him.
“You’re gonna love this place! It’s even better than the last place! And the light hits it all day long!”
“YAY!” Was all I could think to say.
The trees began to back away and the dirt road faded. Several steps later, it was sand and stones. I could see the water now, it seemed like a large pond. The trees stood back a good hundred yards from the water, while the sand consumed the area entirely. In the centre of the pond, was a huge bolder, that looked like a platform. A giant white circle in the middle of the water; it was amazing. One of those sites that leave you speechless.
“Come on hurry up!” He yelled as he grabbed my bag from my shoulders.
“I’m hurrying! And I don’t even know why!” I giggled. He was so cute when he was excited.
“We got to get our things over there! This could be tricky!” He yelled while he began to spin around a few times, with the bag in his hand.
With a couple more spins, and an enthusiastic grunt; he let go of the bag and threw it towards the pond. I watched as it soared in the air, circling rapidly. With that, the bag managed to hop, skip and jump onto the very last few inches of the boulder. How’s that for luck? James then tossed off his shirt, shoes and socks and plunged into the water violently. Without the thinking too much, I foolishly did the same.
I jumped in the water directly behind James. However, he forgot to mention one thing; the water was warm! Seriously! It was so weird. My body had prepared for freezing cold, and shrinkage, but no! This stuff was like bathing water. I swam in behind James who was nearing the large rock. The crisp air filling my nostrils with every breath, I had not felt like this before. The entirety of the event, lifted me completely; not a worry in the world. I stopped halfway to watch as James pulled himself from the water, and onto the rock. The long silky coating of water, gliding off of his skin entranced me. I had not seen such beauty in all my life. Seriously, if there ever was one; this was a Kodak moment! The water brought out every tone in his body, his wet shorts clung to his behind. Gravity had pulled them down partially revealing the waist of his underwear which had become partially transparent.
I forced myself out of my hypnotic state and continued my swim towards the boulder. Pulling myself up to sit next to James, I leaned over and kissed his cheek. Instead of a return kiss all I heard was a brief chuckle; than his hands pressed against my side…..
…….SPLOOSH…..
GAH! He pushed me! I was in shock briefly at the unexpected action. I was underwater, watching the bubbles escape and flow above me. Feeling the bottom of the pond on my feet I opened my eyes; it was strangely bright down here. I could see everything almost perfectly. The water didn’t sting my eyes, instead; felt comforting. The ground beneath me felt soft and silky, not a single rock could be seen on the ponds bottom. Only some slight vegetation near the outskirts of the pond which grew out past the surface. The bubbles had now made it to the top, where I then decided to follow. With a slight bend of the knees, and a partial push; I rocketed back to the real world. I could hear the birds chirping again, and the breeze in the leaves; followed by the familiar chuckle from James as a brief snort escaped his throat.
“I can’t believe you just did that!” I shouted.
“I couldn’t help it, you looked so slippery!” James giggled some more.
“No! Not that! You snorted!!” I then laughed along with him.
“So! I needed to breathe some how!” He explained attempting to stop himself from laughing.
“You just watch out! I will get you eventually! But not while you’re expecting it.” I plotted aloud.
We soon became quiet, and just absorbed the moment. This place seemed magical. Soothing and relaxing, filled with life. James wrapped his arm around me and kissed my lips. He looked into my eyes, and seemed to be trying to say something…
…SPLOOSH!!!...
Hahaha! James had disappeared into the water, revenge is always better when unexpected. I watched as thousands of tiny bubbles escaped to the surface violently only to meet their demise and burst back into nothingness upon reaching their destination. Poor bubbles. Soon to follow was James, his arms violently waving in the air followed by a very red face. I watched as he pulled himself back up beside me. A smile streaked across his face.
“Guess I should have seen that one coming huh….” He giggled.
“Nah, I have a knack for surprise.” I joked.
“Well now that that’s out of our system, how about a swim?”
“Sure!” I replied as I stood up. James stood up and walked to the other side of the boulder, he removed his shorts, and plunged head first back into the water. I too, took off my pants and followed in behind him.
Once again at the bottom of the pond, I crawled along the bottom following James from below. He was at the surface doing what looked like the doggy paddle. I couldn’t get over how different things looked underwater. Especially under this water; everything was so bright and clarified. I wished I could stay under for ever. Stupid oxygen! If I could, I would kick it.
Alas, I found myself growing deflated. So I once again rocketed myself to the top to meet with James. The cool air met my face, and so did James foot. In a bit of shock, I fell back under water briefly, and rethought my surfacing location. Swimming back a few feet, and tried it again.
“Oh my God! Are you alright? I’m so sorry! I didn’t realize you were there!” James panicked.
“Yea I’m fine. Don’t worry about it, it was my fault. I should have came up from the other side.” I explained in an attempt to assure him I was fine.
“Did I get your nose? I’m sorry I can’t control my doggy paddle. Once I start there is no stopping me!” He joked.
“Hehe, I ‘m fine. You should come to the bottom with me, it’s awesome!”
“Okay, but you got to swim away from my feet!” He negotiated, as nodded and took a deep breath.
Bobbing my head upwards than plummeting down underneath the water once more, I ventured back to the bottom. Looking up as I did so, I saw James slowly following. Grabbing hold of the sand, and shoveling my way across the floor of the ponds bottom. James took hold of my waist and held on tight. How ever, this wasn’t so good, as when he did so, we both began to float back to the surface.
“Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.” James giggled. I laughed and than pulled him back down to the bottom.
James this time beat me down, so I followed along his side. Beams of light waved along the sandy bottom. Which for some reason diverted my attention to James bottom. With a quick tug; James lost his underwear! Woot! He turned around and faced my with a look of shock on his face, and pushed himself up to the surface. I of course followed.
“Hey! That’s no fair!” James giggled.
“I know, I thrive on no fair.”
“Can I have my undies back?” James smiled.
“Ummm…. Well, I guess you could. But I think I dropped them on the way up.”
“Oh great. I hope the sand doesn’t swallow them. I’ll be itchy!”
“Well, that’s okay. I’ll scratch for it for you! And if we don’t find them, I personally think, you look much better without them.” I blushed.
“If we can’t find them, we’ll just have to loose yours too. Just to make it fair.” James giggled as he groped my butt.
“We’ll just have to see about that.” I said as I plunged myself back down under the water.
James followed in behind me, as we separated at the bottom to cover more ground. While I glanced back behind me to peak at his bottom that is. In the distance no more than twenty feet away, there dancing on the bottom of the pond were the underpants we were searching for. With a quick look back at James I swam over and grabbed them than returned to the surface. I tucked his underpants in my own so that I was able to swim freely, well to the best of my ability anyway, and doggy paddled my way over to the boulder and chucked the garment on top of it. Without another thought returned back down to the bottom to catch up to James. He was spinning in circles like a rabid dog angry at its tail. If I could laugh properly I would have. But instead smiled, what a naked cutie! I crawled along the bottom towards him and grabbed his hand, guiding him back to the surface.
“What were you doing?” I chuckled.
“Retracing my steps.” He smiled, “Didn’t make it very far…”
“You’re so cute.” I snickered, and kissed him, “I found them, they’re on the rock.”
“Sweet! Thanks!” He smiled, as he than dunked underneath the water. Directly after I felt my underwear escape my legs. And James resurfaced about five feet away, nearer to the boulder.
“Now we’re even.” He stated, as he chucked them next to the bag on the boulder.
“Fair enough.” I smiled, as I approached him. He pulled himself out of the water and onto the rock, than helped me up.
“I’m hungry, ready for lunch?” He asked, while holding his tummy.
“Yea, I could eat.” I replied, standing up and grabbing the bag. Fishing through the bag, for the lunch my mother had packed us, we sat and relaxed for awhile just enjoying the freedom of this place. After eating, we snuggled up next to each other, and fell asleep in one an others arms.
The ground was cold and prickly. The crisp air I remembered now smelt like mold. The warm stone seemed to be soft and itchy. A confusion entered my mind, I could no longer feel James beside me. When I opened my eyes everything was dark and blurry. There were no sounds, the birds were gone. As my eyes began to focus I felt myself enter a state of shock. I was surrounded by trees, dark tall trees. I was laying on a muddy twig scattered ground, and James was no where to be seen. The sun seemed to have fallen long ago, and the moon was hiding behind the trees. I could feel my heart thumping a million beats a minute. And my throat was dry and swollen. Sitting up, I looked around.
The trees were thick and black, and seemed to be scattered for miles. The amount of confusion was overwhelming. My nostrils filled with rot. When I went to stand, I placed my hand behind me for support only to feel my heart leap to my throat. I could feel something wet and slimy under my hand. My head turned involuntarily, as my hand whipped away from what it had found. There beside me, was the carcass of a deer. Well what used to be a deer. It had been mutilated to the point that only its head could identify what it used to be. There was blood everywhere, instantly my mouth felt wet and my tongue grew dry. I placed my fingers to my forearm and wiped it across my face. Only to find blood smeared across it. What had happened? I than realized my arm was different; larger, and obscure tainted brown with dried blood. My fingers were long and curved at the ends. This wasn’t me! I dropped to the ground grabbing my head as it started to ache and thump. Yelling out, a deepness escaped which wasn’t my voice. My tongue hit something sharp, so I felt around my mouth to find what it was. In shock to what I discovered; the sharp object was my teeth, I cried out again in panic and scattered backwards on the ground noticing my legs were not mine as well.
I could not take this insanity any more, and lashed out in a frenzy of anger. I swung my hands into a tree, only to find myself stuck. My pointed fingers now wedged in the tree, a fury of anger and embarrassment caused me to violently head butt the tree which released me of its grip. Nothing made sense, was this a dream? My mind raced and my heart sped up even more. Soon the world began to spin, as the trees circled my eyes. Everything became blurred and obscure, all I could feel was the wind in my hair. It was as if I was running at top speed but without control. My mind became overwhelmed, as my eyes rolled back into my head. It still seemed like I was moving, but my body couldn’t keep up. I felt myself collapse, as a cool feeling consumed my body and relaxed my mind, I let go and allowed myself to drift off into a deep sleep. Hoping that when I once again opened my eyes it would have all been a dream.
